At times, the use of colour becomes so intense that it transforms into a lived experience rather than a simple visual effect. It is no longer something to observe — colour becomes part of the interiority. At other times, colour acts as a vibrant veil, filling the space with its energy. In this apartment in the southern outskirts of Milan, colour takes on both roles with strength and balance.
The project originates from a reinterpretation of the architectural layout, reimagined to create a more natural and functional flow between spaces. An essential transformation that laid the foundation for a shared identity: she, drawn to colors and patterns; he, inclined toward a more classic design and clean lines. The project thus emerges from a delicate balance between chromatic choices, modern elements, and more traditional references.
There is no predefined palette, but rather a bold and coherent use of colour. Indian yellow, light grey and coral appear as recognisable accents, shaping the character of the spaces. Portions of the living area are painted in yellow, the custom geometric tiles in the kitchen echo the same tone, while the white bathroom finds balance in glazed, watercolour-effect tiles. An eclectic mix of vintage and contemporary furniture runs throughout the apartment, creating a visual and narrative rhythm across the space.
The result is a home that is both contemporary and traditional: a space capable of reflecting the identity of a young family and welcoming shared moments with relatives and friends.
